Many of us have set fitness goals for this year, whether it is to lose weight, gain muscle, or just exercise more often. Here are some tips to help you stay on track and achieve your fitness goals in 2025.
1. Pick an activity you enjoy.
If your goal is to be more active this year, picking an activity you enjoy. If the activity is fun, you’re more likely to stick with it. Whether it’s joining a recreational soccer league, swimming, spin class, or simply going for a walk while listening to music, these are all great ways to get moving and stay active.
2. Get rid of your all or nothing mindset.
When people set fitness goals, they typically want to see results right away. They might start a new program or routine in the new year, only to get frustrated and give up after not seeing results in a few weeks. Instead, it’s important to take small and consistent steps toward your goal. If you miss a workout or two, get right back on track with your routine as soon as you can. For example, let’s say that you’ve decided you’re going to attend a spin class three nights a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You achieve this in the first three weeks of the new year, but then on week four, you attend your brother’s birthday on Monday night, and help your friend move on Friday night. So you only end up going on Wednesday night that week. Life happens, but you shouldn’t let that deter you from getting right back on track the following week. Start your regular routine again by going to your spin class on Monday of the following week. By getting back on track right away, you’ll continue to progress toward your goals.
3. Invite a friend to workout with you.
When starting a new workout routine, working out with a friend is a great way to keep you accountable. Not only is it fun to workout with a friend, but they can also help motivate you to keep showing up and giving it your best. Say hello to someone at your next group class at the gym. You might have a great conversation and have things in common. It’s always nice to see a familiar face when showing up to class, especially on the days that you don’t want to go.
I’m rooting for you to achieve your fitness goals in 2025. Let me know in the comments if you have other tips that help you stay on track with your fitness routine!
